Alberta Health Care

The Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) covers eligible physician and hospital services, but not automatically prescriptions, dental care, glasses, or ambulances.

Register and prepare

• Check your eligibility and register through a registry agent with proof of identity, status, and Alberta residency.
• Keep your health card private and promptly report changes to your address or status.
• Look for a family physician through Alberta Find a Doctor; walk-in clinics may help in the meantime.

Choose the right service

• Call Health Link at 811, around the clock, to speak with a nurse and learn where to seek care.
• For a serious or life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to an emergency department.
• Use MyHealth Records to access available results and health information.
