Driver’s licence
You need the correct licence for the vehicle you drive and valid insurance. Exchange rules depend on the issuing country and your documented experience.
Get an Alberta licence
- Review the exchange process to learn whether knowledge and road tests are required.
- Bring your original licence, an accepted translation if needed, proof of status and residency, and documents confirming experience.
- Use a licensed registry agent. Do not drive after your legal authority to drive has expired.
Buy and insure a vehicle
- Request several quotes before buying; insurers do not all recognize foreign driving experience in the same way.
- Check the VIN, history, inspection, and any liens before paying.
- Carry your licence, registration, and proof of insurance when driving.
